Winter NAMM 2005 Coverage
Vox
Was hoping to see something in the Valvetronix line but the only new stuff from Vox are the CoolTron pedals and a new
AC30 made in China that is all the AC30 models rolled into one. The CoolTron pedals use a 12AU7 tube and can run up to
20 hours on a battery. They come in 3 flavors: Bulldog Distortion (2 channel distortion), Brit Boost (think Brian May) and
Big Ben Overdrive (pushes your amp into overdrive).
For US residents Vox has a new website where you can buy accessories directly from Vox.

Digitech Clapton Crossroads Pedal
Got to play with this and was unimpressed. As a huge Clapton/Cream fan the sounds were there but the pedal feels lifeless,
and has no dynamics.
Mesa Boogie Lone Star Special
For me this was the star of the show as this is one sweet sounding amp. Switchable class A power at 5/15/30 watts the first
amp that truly great in the house and at a gig. With 4 EL84 power tubes that get reduce to 2 at 15 watts and 1 at 5 watts.

Other features include:
2 Fully Independent Channels each with Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence, Reverb & Master Controls
Channel 1 is dedicated to Boutique Vintage Clean/Breakup
Channel 2 is switchable between Clean/Breakup (Cloning Channel 1) or Cascading High Gain
High Gain Mode activates separate Drive Control (Multi-Stage Cascading Gain Circuit)
All-Tube, Long Spring Reverb with Bright/Warm Reverb Tone Switch
|
Formats include: Medium Head, Long Head, 1x12 Special Classic Combo (smaller format than the Lone Star 1x12 Classic Combo),
2x12 Classic Combo (same exact size as the Lone Star 2x12 Classic Combo), (Short Head and Compact 1x12 Combo also available upon request)
and a 4x10 Combo.

The 4x10 Combo has different speaker mix with Jensens on the top and Eminence on the bottom. To my ears this version
sounded much better than the 1x12 or 2x12.
